The past few weeks have been INCREDIBLE!
Swordfishing has been red hot both day and night. Boats are getting multiple hook-ups along with multiple fish. Fish have been of all sizes and have been caught both North and South. Get out there when the conditions are right, as conditions do change quickly out there in the Winter months.
Dolphin have been everywhere - small and big. Many reports of dolphin over 30 pounds offshore and also near the edge of the reefs on the kites. Try trolling a Rays Offshore Sucker Lures with Blue Boy Mylar skirt... excellent for dolphin, sails and tuna.
Lots of "football" Blackfin tuna are still in the area. Troll small blue & white or black & purple feather lures in 200-500ft of water. There are no size or bag limit restrictions for these particular tunas, and they are great for sashimi.
Sailfish: Good bites off of Boynton Beach and also down in Miami. Crews have been getting them off Boca on live bait, mostly in the morning. With the next cold front things should really start to heat up... Most of the sails are being caught between 100ft and 130ft. Drift live bait on balloons or from kites.
Wahoo: With the recent full moon, a few anglers were able to get out and pick up some decent wahoo locally. Mostly trolling outside the reef line, out to 400ft from Boynton Beach to Lighthouse Point. In the Bahamas the wahoo bite has been very good. There have been reports of boats getting 5 to 10 fish per day, and decent sizes up to 60 pounds.

Dolphin have been numerous offshore, but the average size has only been between 20-26 inches. A few reports of individuals up to 25lbs have been reported. Most have been found deeper than 700ft of water, along weedlines or around floating debris.

Kingfishing has been okay between Boca and Boynton inlets. They have been down deep, escaping the warmer summer surface waters.
Historically, this is the month for Wahoo from Boca to Palm Beach. The full moon is August 16th. There have already been some sporradic catches in the 20-70lb range.
Nighttime Yellowtail Snapper fishing has yielded good results in 60-85ft of water on a swift North current, and chumming heavily.
Swordfishing during the nighttime is still slow, but the catches are starting to increase. Daytime deep-dropping for swordfish has also started to pick up, as proven in last weekend's "2nd Annual Sunburned Swordfish" tournament, held between Miami and Boynton Beach. Team "Frick & Frack won the event with a single 357lb fish. 2nd place went to Vitamin Sea, with a combined total of 303.5lbs. 3rd was Tactical 1, with a single 241.4lb'er. And 4th went to Skirt Chaser with a single 85lb swordfish.
For those venturing over to the Bahamas, the Yellowfin Tuna bite has been strong near Lucaya. Fish from 30-100lbs have been caught both day and night. Follow the birds! |

This week we heard a mixed bag of reports.
Kingfish have been around from about Linton Blvd North to Jupiter. Bigger fish are being caught on live bait in 80ft-135ft. Some are slow trolling ballyhoo or just drifting chunks and still picking up the smaller Kings.
The Bonito have been thick in front of Boca and San Remo, and North to Boynton, from 100ft-200ft. They will hit just about anything, try a "New" Tuna Smoker Lure.
Bottom fishing has been the most consistant of all. The Yellowtails and Muttons have been chewing on a good North current with alot of chum. Both night and day catches were consistant on the Yellowtails from 15-18 inches.
Swordfishing during the nighttime is very slow. Not many reports of fish being caught. The daytime deep-dropping crews have been doing okay. Last weekend's "Swordlords" swordfish tournament only saw 3 fish weighed-in among 23 boats... but one of those was 488lbs, caught aboard the Vitamin Sea, which won the event.
Some Blue Marlin are around off Boca. There have been reports of guys catching them over the past few weeks. They seem to be anywhere from 9-15 miles offshore and are running from about 150 to 300lbs. The guys at Bluewater Lures went 1 for 2 Saturday 7/5/08 using a UV Sucker Head with Black/Orange Skirt over a single-hooked ballyhoo.

Kingfish are bitting a bit North of Boynton Inlet in 90-120ft. Slow trolling or live baiting is the best bet.
Bottom fishing has been strong in the day and night mostly for Muttons and Yellowtails. Anchor when the current is running strong to the North, and use a lot of chum. This is the time to do bottom fishing, since the fish tend to be close to the bottom in the heat of the day.
Some dolphin have been caught , but most have been small. Some boats have found keepers by running 7-15 miles offshore and searching for weedlines or floating debris.
Swordfishing. The traditional nighttime drifting for swordfish has not been too productive. But the boats with some experience deep-dropping during the daytime for swords have been doing good. Although many of the big fish have been getting away, there have been a few enormous fish landed. Most notably, was a 545lb swordfish caught on Captain Bouncer Smith's boat. It was hooked during the late afternoon in last weekend's Hydro Glow Summer Sword Slam tournament, and was landed 5 hours later. There was also a 298lb and a 133lb fish weighed-in during the tournament.
Bahamas
There are still some decent dolphin being caught. Boats have been chasing the birds for Yellowfin tuna in the 30-90lb range. There are reports of thick weedlines too. |

Kingfish have been showing up in 100ft-125ft off Linton Blvd. Just a bit North is where you can find them. Most have been caught on live bait or drifting ballyhoo chunks. The bite off Jupiter this past weekend was pretty good.
Sailfish were thick on Saturday for the Women's Fishing Tournament. A lot of boats were reporting multiple catches from Boca North to Jupiter. Live Goggle-Eyes were the preferred bait.
The Dolphin bite has been very slow. A few reports here and there when finding some weeds or debris offshore. Crews are running offshore early, and returning in the early-to -mid afternoons to avoid thunderstorms.
Daytime Swordfishing has been consistant for a few dedicated crews. There have been many hook-ups, but landing 'em has been tricky. Typically, anglers are sneding baits to the bottom in 1400-1800ft of water and getting tight right away!!! Keep in-mind that the annual HydroGlow Summer Sowrd Slam tournamnet is taking place this coming weekend (June 21st). The Kick-Off Party/captains' meeting will be held at Bonefish Mac's Bar & Grille at Sample & Federal Hwy Thursday, June 19th, at 6pm. Visit www.fullmoonadventuresinc.com for more information.
Bahamas
Bimini Report: Fishing is very good out front for kingfish, sails, and bottom fish. Muttons and other snapper bite has been ON. The dolphin bite has slowed down some. Not as many big fish coming in, but crews are still getting a few here and there. There are alot of blackfin and skipjack tuna, but few yellowfin tuna.

The Kingfishing has been most consistant these past few weeks from 100ft to about 120ft on just about anything, but live bait has been the best bet. Even dead ballyhoo have been producing good numbers and sized fish from Boynton to Boca Inlet.
Some decent Blackfin Tuna are still being caught in 90ft to 120ft, mostly on live bait, and especially when there's a Northeast breeze.
The Dolphin bite has been in the early mornings. Mostly schoolie-sized. There have been only a few caught that weighed over 20lbs over the weekend. Boats are running out, looking for debris 15-25 miles offshore. The weedlines have been weak at best.
Bottom fishing has been good.
Yellowtail and Mutton Snapper can be caught in a strong North current, when using a lot of chum.
Tropical Mexico
The sportfishing boat "Sea Wolf" reported a lot of White Marlin just South of Cancun. Many Sailfish and 30-45lb Dolphin too. Multiple billfish "slams" reported.
Bahamas
Yellowfin Tuna are starting to move closer to West End and Lucaya. Mostly 20-30lb fish, but a few larger ones are being caught on deeper baits.

May 12 - May 21, 2008
The Blackfin Tuna have been showing up in the early mornings and evenings from Boynton to Hillsboro. They were found between 100ft-135ft mostly on live bait or a "glitter head tuna smoker" plug. Some boats have had good luck on live bait (goggle-eyes and pilchards) on the flat line or kite.
Kingfish have been thick all over from 100ft to 125ft mostly on live bait or trolling ballyhoo on a downrigger or planer.
Dolphin bite has slowed down, but you can still find a few up to 25lbs in the area. Offshore anglers are running and gunning looking for floating debris.
Swordfishing is starting to heat up. Some boats have been catching fish, but not consistantly.
Bottom Fishing
The full-moon Mutton Snapper bite is good. Some nice sized Yellowtail Snappers have been caught too.
Bahamas
Yellowfin Tuna are being caught North of Matanilla Shoal. There have been reports of crews catching YFTs in the 40-100lb range.

George Poveromo, host of George Poveromo's World of Saltwater Fishing on ESPN2, caught a 113.12lb Wahoo in San Salvador, Bahamas on May 2nd. He was filming a new episode of the TV show while fishing on Trey Rhyne's 55-foot sportfishing yacht Low Profile. The wahoo ate a blue and white "Rick's Fancy" lure purchased from Ray's Offshore Tackle, and made by Ray McConnell's company Bluewater Lures of Boca Raton, Florida. The episode is expected to air on ESPN2 in January, 2009. |
